Top Rated Weed Eaters Buyers Guide 2023-2024
If you are a home owner then chances are you know how valuable a good weed eater / weed wacker can be. However finding the right weed eater isn’t so easy anymore. Competition these days are fierce and there are a lot of different brands each with a number of different styles and types of weed eaters. Which is why we created our Top Rated Weed Eaters Buyers Guide.
First things first as you may know there are three main types of weed eaters battery powered weed eaters, gas powered weed eaters, and plug-in corded weed eaters. Each having pros and cons and designed for specific jobs and user needs. Knowing which you is better for you will help you narrow down your options.
For example if you have a small yard and only need to trim around the driveway then a battery powered weed eater might be a perfect option for you. On the other hand if you have a lot of land that requires a lot of weed eating and trimming then you would be better off with a gas powered tiller.
What To Look For When Buying A Weed Eater
Knowing what to look for when buying a weed eater can save you a lot of money after all there’s no need on spending a few hundred dollars if you don’t have to. With that said and as the example above indicates the size of your yard plays a big factor.
Another factor is the engines for gas powered cutters, do you want a 2 cycle engine where you mix gas and oil or a 4 cycle. Figuring out what cutting width of the weed eater you need can save you a lot of time. The wider the cut the less passes you have to make over the areas, yet the smaller cuts allow you to get in those tighter spaces.
Has your back ever given you trouble after weed eating for too long? Perhaps it was because of the length or type of shaft your weed eater had. Having an adjustable shaft allows you to set the length according to your height to make the weed wacker more comfortable to use and easier on your back.
Those are just a few things to look for when buying a weed eater but lets go over a bit about each type of weed eater to give you a better understanding of their cons and pros.
Advantages of Battery Powered Weed Eaters
There are a lot of advantages to owning a battery powered weed eater including the fact that they are super easy to start. Attach the charged battery and you are ready to go.
Battery powered weed eaters are not only easy to start they are very light weight. Unlike the gas powered weeded eaters electric weed eaters don’t need a heavy combustion engine. While you have the added weight of the battery it’s not as much as the weight of the gas and oil.
Zero emissions is also a huge advantage of battery powered weed eaters. Eco friendly and convenient as you’ll no longer need to worry about spilling gas or oil. Save your cloths from smelling like fumes!
My wife’s favorite thing about electric powered weed eaters is how quieter they are compared to gas powered weed eaters. She can weed eat and still hear if the kids are calling her. Another thing she really enjoys is the fact that they don’t vibrate as much so her arms don’t get sore.
Advantages of Gas Powered Weed Eaters
While battery powered weed eaters are catching up to the power of gas powered weed eaters they aren’t there yet. Gas powered weed eaters have that power to cut through the thick stuff with ease.
Gas powered weed eaters tend to have more maintenance, however because of that they are more efficient and last longer. With gas powered weed eaters you never have to worry about replacing expensive batteries or waiting for them to recharge.
If you like using different attachments such as a Hedger you’ll want a gas powered weed eater as there are more options for attachments. Some battery powered tillers may have options as well, but you’ll find that more expensive weed eaters will have the most options.
Advantages of Plug-in Corded Weed Eaters
One of the biggest advantages of a plug-in corded weed eater is that they are so light weight. Out of the three different styles they are the lightest and easiest to maneuver around. If you find that holding a gas powered weed eater is just to much of a strain on your arms and back than you really want to look into getting a plug-in corded weed eater.
Like the battery powered weed eaters the plug-in weed eaters are very quite compared to the gas powered units. With them being so quite and light weight it’s much easier to spend more time and work longer on trimming your weeds.
Dragging a power cord around can be a nuisance at times the benefits can be well worth it. As the computer geeks call it “Plug & Play”. That’s all you need to do is plug in and you are ready to go. Never need to add oil or gas or spend 20 minutes just trying to get the thing to start as I have done with a pull string gas powered weed eater.
Lets not forget the cost of most plug-in corded weed eaters / electric weed eaters cost a lot less than batter powered weed eaters and gas powered weed eaters. That alone is a huge advantage if the plug-in weed eater is the right choice for you.
Weed Eater Accessories
Be sure to consider weed eater accessories when buying your weed eater. Having the right accessories can end up saving you time and money in the long run. Weed eater accessories can range from an extra battery to special adapters such as the Troy Bilt Drill Bit.
Also ensure you get the correct size string / wire for the weed eater you choose. Using string that is to large for the weed eater can add stress to the motor and end up causing damage to your weed eater.

What We Liked
Pretty much everything about the Black & Decker LSTE525 battery powered weed eater is worth liking. You’ve got versatility, great power, durable frame, excellent battery life, and awesome features like the EasyWeed. What’s there to not like?
What We Don’t Like
We want to give you the best review we can so we also comb through the negative reviews to see what people don’t like. While there are very few the ones we noticed where about the power and battery issues.
Keep in mind if you have the maximum power setting on to cut the thick stuff the battery will drain faster. It’s best to keep the weed eater in power saving mode until needed. If you find that the batter life is still to short for your liking there are larger batteries that provide longer usage.
Summary
If you are in the market for a batter powered weed eater the Black & Decker LSTE525 battery powered weed eater is an awesome choice. It’s highly rated among Amazon users and for good reason. As always its good to know what your needs are before hand.
If you have a mid sized lot with minimum amount of weed eating you can’t go wrong with this weed eater. It comes with an extra battery so you can have one charging while using the other and really get the most out of your time.

The Worx WG163 GT 3.0 20V Cordless Grass Trimmer/Edger is our next top choice for batter powered weed eaters. Basically just as good as the Black & Decker LSTE525 with the exception of the optional attachments. The Worx WG163 GT 3.0 is a great choice for a battery powered weed eater.

You’ll be glad you did.
There are hundreds of thrilled customer reviews claiming how much they enjoy using their Worx WG163 GT 3.0 Trimmer. Commenting how easy it was to handle due to the light weight and how simple the line feed system worked.
Another feature a lot of customers seemed to be real impressed with was how nice a cut the edge trimmer did. Easy to switch to and gives very clean lines. Makes your yard stand out in a good way.
What We Liked
It’s a tough call between the Worx WG163 GT 3.0 Grass Trimmer and the Black & Decker LSTE525 as they both are great weed eaters and perform extremely well.
Because the batteries for these work with other equipment within their brands if you already own other equipment by one of these brands we recommend staying that brand.
What We Don’t Like
One thing we would like to see with the Worx WG163 GT 3.0 is a bit more string on the spools. Edge work and eat the string up quickly depending on how deep your edges goes and having more string on the spool would help prevent often spool changes under certain conditions.
Summary
The Worx WG163 GT 3.0 20V Cordless Grass Trimmer/Edger is a battery powered weed eater. If that’s what you are looking for then by all means this is an awesome weed eater for you. It’s at a great price and includes 2 batteries so keep one charging while using the other and switch them out when needed and you should get plenty of yard work done.
DeWalt DCST920P1 Brushless Trimmer

Designed with dual lines you’ll pretty much be weed eating twice as fast. Dual line weed eaters tend to have a cleaner cut as well as being able to take down the thicker weeds a lot easier.
DeWalt founded in 1924 is an American worldwide brand that makes top of the line hand tools and power tools including the DeWalt DCST920P1 Brushless Trimmer. A bump line feed system that works as indented. Extend the weed eater line with a quick bump on the ground, simple, quick and easy.
What We Liked
The brand name DeWalt is a well known company of great products and been around for a long time. That is a good reason to like this weed eater but we also like the fact it comes with a bit thicker line.
Being that it’s dual line and thicker line you should have no issues trimming the thick stuff that grows around creek paths and over grown flower beds.
What We Don’t Like
For one it’s a bit on the expensive side when compared to our top 2 choices the Black & Decker LSTE525 and the Worx WG163 GT 3.0. It also only comes with one battery which our top 2 choices each come include two batteries at a lower cost.
The other concern we had was the weight being that it weights 14 pounds. For those who are looking for something ultra light weight might want to take that into consideration.
Summary
To summarize our review on DeWalt DCST920P1 Brushless Trimmer it’s another great choice for battery operated weed eaters. The dual line and thicker line helps set this weed eater apart from the others, however it’ll cost you a bit more. If you are a DeWalt fan than this might be the perfect weed eater for you.
Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer
Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer runs off a 40 volt battery unlike the first 3 top choices that run a 20 volt battery. The 40 volt battery give you more power and lasts longer than the 20 volt batteries, so you can get more done without having to change out the battery as often.
Weighing 9.3 pounds isn’t to bad considering that it’s got a 40v battery. While it’s not as light as others it still beats carrying around a gas powered weed eater. The 13 inch cutting width is ample enough width for the average consumer.
One of the nice things about the Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer is the 4 position pivoting head designed allows more options for edging and trimming. The edge wheel also helps keep a nice clean level cut.
Features Include:
- 4 Position Pivoting Head For Edging and Trimming
- Push Button Start
- Weight: 9.3 Pounds
- 13 Inch Cutting Width
- 40 Volt Lithium Max
- Up To 60 Minutes of Battery Runtime
- Edging Wheel
Like the other big name brands the batteries for the Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer also work with other equipment. Actually the battery is a G-Max battery and works with 25 plus tools.
They claim it’s best used for up to 1/2 acre yard but honestly it depends on how much weed eating you have. I’ve seen small yards that required a lot of weed eating and large ones that had very little. With that said it really depends on how much weed eating you have to do not exactly how big of a yard you have.
When picking our top choice products we like to see a lot of customer reviews positive or negative as it gives you a bigger picture and better idea of what you are getting. If you check out the reviews for the Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer you’ll find lots of valuable information and hundreds of satisfied customers.
What We Liked
Sure it’s not our top choice but it’s still a decent battery powered weed eater and it uses a 40v battery which can be a good thing. The fact that the G-Max battery works with over 25 other power tools is another plus in our book.
What We Don’t Like
Of course every product is going to have a few bad comments as some products just don’t meet users expectations and lemons happen. We noticed in the reviews for the Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer a few customers complained about auto feed device not functioning properly.
We’ve noticed this in a number of weed eaters and mostly in those with some sort of auto feed system. It’s always frustrating having to stop and adjust your feed or take it apart to untangle the string.
Summary
Other than the auto feed issues the Greenworks 13-Inch 40V Cordless String Trimmer isn’t an awful choice. If by chance you end up with one that has a feeder problem you can always use a different type of string such as the Rino-Tuff .065 Inch Universal Trimmer Line.
Husqvarna 129C 17″ Cutting Path Gas String Trimmer
Husqvarna is another huge brand name and well respected company that makes great products and the Husqvarna 129C 17″ Cutting Path Gas String Trimmer is just that. The Husqvarna 129C 17″ Cutting Path Gas String Trimmer is the most expensive weed eater in our top weed eaters but that’s not to say it’s not worth it. On the contrary it’s actually one of the highest rated, with lots of customer reviews.
The reviews are highly rated with customers being satisfied and recommending this weed eater. We assume the cost isn’t a problem.
What We Liked
This weed eater is super silent with very little vibration. Make weed eating much more enjoyable.
What We Don’t Like
Nothing
Summary
It’s an impressive well crafted durable piece of equipment and well worth taking a look at.

Looking over the reviews we found you can see that a lot of people are really impressed with this gas powered weed eater. Easy to assemble, easy to use, and provides lots of power. Customers loved how easy the Husqvarna 128LD is to start and the little amount of vibration being generated while in use.
What We Liked
For a gas powered weed eater the Husqvarna 128LD, 28cc 2-cycle 17 in. Gas String Trimmer is extremely powerful and light weight. Made by a top quality brand and the ability to use an assortment of attachments makes this our top choice for gas powered weed eaters.
What We Don’t Like
A few people mentioned how the powered seemed to be weaker than expected and after some tweaking and adjustment of the carburetor all was good. For those that can and know how to make those tweaks it’s not an issue, but it’s something you shouldn’t have to do. I’m sure it’s not something that needs to be done on ever unit but something to be aware of.
Summary
The Husqvarna 128LD, 28cc 2-cycle 17 in. Gas String Trimmer is as powerful as a professional weed eater without the high cost. It is a 2 cycle engine so it will require you to mix the gas and oil but with X-Torq’s efficiency you won’t be burning through fuel as often.
Remington RM2510 17″ 25cc String Trimmer
Our second top choice for gas powered weed eaters is the Remington RM2510 17″ 25Cc String Trimmer. It’s not perfect but it’s also less than half the cost of the Husqvarna 128LD and still have some very nice features.
Uses a 25cc 2 cycle engine which is perfect for trimming around the house and yard and does a decent job at cutting the thick weeds in the flower beds. 16 Inch cutting width and dual lines really cuts down the time you spend grooming your yard.
While the Remington RM2510 is designed with a curved shaft their is also a version with a straight shaft if that’s what you prefer. It’s a bit more than twenty dollars but it’s nice to have that option available.
Features Include:
- 25cc 2 Cycle Engine w/ QuickStart Technology
- Curved Shaft
- Dual Line Bump Head
- 16 Inch Cutting Width
- Weight: 13 Pounds
- Used .095 Cutting Line
- 2 Year Limited Warranty
Having the QuickStart technology makes starting the Remington RM2510 easy which is good because it’s a pain in the rear when you are ready to go out and get some yard work done and you can’t get your weed eater started. I don’t know anyone who likes to waste time trying to start their weed eater.
The Remington RM2510 doesn’t have the highest ratings but there are a lot of customer reviews to base a solid opinion. A good mix of positive and negative reviews with more leaning to the positive.
It seems that like most gas powered 2 cycle engines people have issues with the motor over heating. That leads us to believe that oil wasn’t mixed with the gas or not the right ratio. As the instructions indicate the Remington RM2510 uses a 1:40 ratio per 1 gallon of gasoline.
What We Liked
For a gas powered weed eater the price is what sets the Remington RM2510 apart from the others. The QuickStart system, Dual line, and a 2 year limited warranty helps the case as well.
What We Don’t Like
Quality isn’t the greatest but enough to get the job done and last you a number of years. We also noticed a high volume of customers complaining about the line bump feed system not functioning properly. Sadly this is the case with a lot of bump feed weed eaters.
Summary
Of course this gas powered weed eater isn’t for everyone but if you compare the features along with the price it’s a great deal. For those who have trouble starting pull string weed eaters the QuickStart system will make things easier for you compared to other gas powered weed eaters.
Hitachi CG23ECPSL 22.5cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered String Trimmer
Like our top choice of gas powered weed eaters the Hitachi CG23ECPSL 22.5cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered String Trimmer is ultra light with a dry weight of only 10.3 pounds. For a lot of people the weight can make a huge difference.
At a length of 69.9 inches with a straight shaft this weed eater eliminates the need for bending and lessens fatigue on your arms. Furthermore there is an anti vibration system which also helps reduce fatigue in your hands and arms allowing to you working longer.
We found four different attachments for the Hitachi CG23ECPSL including a mini cultivator, hedge trimmer, pole saw, and an edger. For that reason the Hitachi CG23ECPSL is convenient and versatile. The more functions a weed eater has the more valuable they are.
Features Include:
- 22cc Pure Fire 2 Cycle Engine
- Anti-Vibration System
- S-Start Recoil Starting System
- Weight: 10.3 Pounds
- 15 Inch Cutting Width
- 7 Year Consumer Warranty and 2 Year Commercial Warranty
One thing that really makes the Hitachi CG23ECPSL stand out is the warranty that Hitachi offers with their weed eaters. For the Hitachi CG23ECPSL gas powered weed eater they offer a 7 year consumer warranty along with a 2 year commercial warranty.
The fact that they offer a 2 year commercial warranty tells us they expect this thing to last a while. Commercial grade weed eaters can easily cost double the price as the Hitachi CG23ECPSL.
Surfing through the reviews we noticed a good split between those that absolutely love it or completely dis-liked it with little room in-between. Those that loved it where impressed mostly by the light weight , how easy it starts, and the little amount of vibrations the Hitachi CG23ECPSL gave off.
What We Liked
Got to admit the 7 year warranty is a big plus for us. That in combination with it being ultra light, easy to start, and has an anti vibration system makes the Hitachi CG23ECPSL a top contender and worth looking into.
What We Don’t Like
One thing about gas powered weed eaters is that they are loud and the Hitachi CG23ECPSL is no exception. In fact it’s one of the loudest and we recommend wearing ear protection as you should with all gas powered weed eaters.
Summary
Commercial grade weed eater at a residential price. Considering how light weight the Hitachi CG23ECPSL is and how easy it starts when low vibrations this weed eater is a super deal.
Poulan Pro PR25SD, 16 in. 25cc Gas Straight Shaft String Trimmer
Poulan is another big brand in the weed eater industry and the Poulan Pro PR25SD, 16 in. 25cc Gas Straight Shaft String Trimmer is one of their top of line gas powered weed eaters.
The spring assisted starter system allows the weed eater to start with one or two pulls. If the engine is cold it may take few extra as with most gas powered weed eaters.
Having a 17 inch cutting width along with dual line feed makes trimming the yard go by much faster. The 25cc 2 cycle engine is ample enough power to take on most yard weeds with ease.
Being multi-functional capable comes in handy and save on money as the Poulan Pro PR25SD can be used as an edger, a brush cutter, a blower, a cultivator, and a pole pruner with separately sold attachments.
Features Include:
- Spring Assisted Starter System
- 17 Inch Cutting Width
- Weight: 14 Pounds
- 25cc 2 Cycle Engine
- Straight Shaft
- Dual Line Feed Tap’N Go
- Multi-Functional Capable
Dual line feed Tap’N Go is a bump line feed system. While in the mist of weed eating and you notice your lines getting short just tap / bump the weed eater on the ground to release more line. It’s a common feature found in gas powered weed eaters.
Like the Hitachi CG23ECPSL we noticed a good mix of reviews with the Poulan Pro PR25SD from those that really liked it to those that were not as thrilled about it. Common ground was that the Poulan Pro PR25SD is easy to start and worked as expected.
What We Liked
17 Inch cutting width is pretty nice and can cut down on your weed eating time. No punt intended. Also being multi-functional and at a great price makes this a decent choice for gas powered weed eaters.
What We Don’t Like
We read a lot of reviews with customers talking about how units not working after only a few times of use. This can be difficult to determine the cause, is there something wrong with the unit or was it more on the user error.
With that said one thing we didn’t like about the Poulan Pro PR25SD was a tad on the heavy side while the line was a bit on the thin side.
Summary
The Poulan Pro PR25SD isn’t a bad price but is a bit heavy. If you like Poulan products and are considering this weed eater it would worth looking into getting a should strap for support.
Our Top Choices in Top Rated Electric Plug-in Powered Weed Eaters
Black & Decker MTE912 12-Inch Electric 3-in-1 Trimmer/Edger and Mower
The Black & Decker MTE912 12-Inch Electric 3-in1- Trimmer/Edger and Mower is our top rated choice for electric plug-in powered weed eaters. As Black & Decker has a durable mower based deck feature that sets this weed eater apart from the rest.
Being an electric plug-in powered weed eater this is designed for a smaller area but the fact that the Black & Decker MTE912 has a mower deck included and can be used as a mini mower is incredibly convenient.
There are a lot of people that have a small yard and simply use a weed eater as a mower. The problem is that mowing with a weed eater it’s very difficult to cut the grass at the same level free handed.
However thanks to the Black & Decker MTE912 that’s no longer an issue. Because with the attachable mower deck you’ll be able to mow your lawn all at the same height like a push mower does.
The removable mowing deck can be adjusted to two different heights and has a foot pedal release for simple and quick conversion from mower to weed eater.
Features Include:
- Durable Mower Based Deck
- 2 Height Settings On Mower Deck
- ASF Automatic Line Feed System
- Gear Drive Transmission
- Easily Converted Wheel Edging
- 6.5 Amp Motor
- 12 Inch Cutting Width
- Weight: 9.9 Pounds w/o Mower Deck
- Weight: 13.1 Pounds w Mower Deck
As if the durable mower based deck wasn’t enough you also have an ASF automatic line feed system so there’s no need in bumping to extend the line. That would be tough to do in the mower mode.
For those of us with short legs there is the ability to shorten the shaft and adjust the handles to make it as comfortable as possible. The Black + Decker MTE912 is also fairly light at 9.9 pounds with out the mower deck.
Understandably we can see a lot of people being skeptical about the Black & Decker MTE912, after all it’s not something you see every day. Which is why it’s always a good idea to get multiple opinions and there are a lot of reviews on Amazon to give you a good idea of exactly what you are getting.
What We Liked
Obviously the mower deck is our favorite feature about this electric plug-in powered weed eater. Sure it looks like a gimmick but it’s perfect for those with a small yard and don’t want the hassle of storing and using a push mower.
What We Don’t Like
Our only issue with the Black + Decker MTE912 is the fact that it only has a 12 inch cutting width. Given that it’s designed for small yards it’s not that big of an issue.
Summary
This isn’t a power house of a weed eater and it’s not meant to be. It’s designed for those smaller yards with a minimum amount of weed eating. The Black + Decker MTE912 is in our opinion the perfect weed eater for anyone with a small lot.
For those that don’t like having to moving and haul around a cord there is also a battery powered version although the battery takes a good while to charge.
Greenworks 15-Inch 5.5 Amp Corded String Trimmer 21272
Our second top choice for electric plug-in powered weed eaters is the Greenworks 15-Inch 5.5 Amp Corded String Trimmer 21272. Greenworks makes a wide verity of highly rated outdoor products including this weed eater.
Being an electric plug-in powered weed eater there’s no need for oil or gas. All you’ll need is an extension cord and something to trim. Make sure the .065 dual auto feed line is at the desired length and pull the trigger to trim. It’s a lot easier than having to mix in some oil and gas then pull a cord to get it started.
The shaft is adjustable to suit your comfort along with it being ultra light weight at a little over 6 pounds. Which also makes it easy to turn over to be used as an edger.
While there’s no mower deck like the Black + Decker MTE912 the
Greenworks 21272 Corded Sting Trimmer does have a 15 inch cutting width which is awesome for an electric powered plug-in weed eater.
Features Include:
- Weight: 6.86 Pounds
- 15 Inch Cutting Width
- .065 Dual Auto Feed Line
- Pivoting Head for Edging
- 5.5 Amp Motor
- Cord Lock
Reading over the customer reviews one customer explained how the auto feed system works which is worth sharing. Basically there is a release mechanism that releases a bit of line each time you let off the power trigger and the spinner head comes to a stop.
Therefor the more you start and stop the Greenworks 21272 Corded Sting Trimmer the more line that is fed. This also mean you could be wasting a lot of string if you start and stop the weed eater often.
We believe that if more customers knew that there wouldn’t be as many negative reviews. On the bright side there are a lot more positive reviews and a plenty of satisfied customers that absolutely love their Greenworks 21272 Corded Sting Trimmer .
What We Liked
This being one of the lightest weed eaters makes this a great choice for anyone who might have back & shoulder problems. The cord lock is another small and simple yet useful little feature.
We also like the fact that there are a lot of customer reviews. Good or bad customer feed back is always helpful.
What We Don’t Like
As we mentioned earlier the auto feed system in the Greenworks 21272 Corded Sting Trimmer could use a better explanation to help eliminate some of the confusion and allow more efficient use of the cutting line.
Summary
If the Greenworks 21272 Corded Sting Trimmer had a mower deck with the 15 inch cutting width it might be our top choice. It’s an electric plug-in cord powered weed eater and designed for small yards not cutting down fields of tangle up briers. Use as intended and it’s an awesome weed eater.
Toro 51480 Corded 14-Inch Electric Trimmer/Edger
Up next is the Toro 51480 Corded 14-Inch Electric Trimmer/Edger and very similar to the Greenworks 21272. Using a dual auto line feed system, adjustable shaft and handle, and sporting a powerful 5 amp 120v motor.
A few differences is the cutting width is a tad smaller and the weight is a tad heaver. Minor differences yet differences none the less. The Toro 51480 is also a bit more expensive.
So is it worth the extra cost? Well if you have other Toro products and looking to stick with the same brand then sure it might be worth it. On the other hand if you’ve had bad luck or are against the other choices it’s working looking at.
Features Include:
- Powerful 5 Amp 120V Motor
- 14 Inch Extra Wide Cutting Width
- Dual Auto Line Feed
- One-Step Walk-Behind Edging
- Telescoping Shaft & Adjustable Assist Handle
- Weight : 7.5 Pounds
- 2 Year Warranty
Another nice feature as with most electric powered weed eaters is the fact there is very little vibration while in use. Much easier on the hands. The thing with electric powered weed eaters is they are convenient. You can do a quick weed job in a short amount of time.
If you have a small yard and just looking for something quick and easy to trim here and there than the Toro 51480 makes for a good choice. Like our first two choices there are a lot of customer reviews to read over.
Results are that the majority of customers who purchased a Toro 51480 Corded 14-Inch Electric Trimmer/Edger were pleased and recommend the weed eater.
What We Liked
It’s a decent light weight electric powered weed eater for a decent price. Made for small yards and light trimming jobs. Having a 2 year warranty never hurts either.
What We Don’t Like
According to a number of reviews the auto feed system seems to be the biggest complaint. Problem is a lot of customers don’t understand how the auto feed system works and end up wasting a lot of string. Every time the weed eater head stops spinning it releases a little bit of string.
Summary
The Toro 51480 Corded 14-Inch Electric Trimmer/Edger is another decent weed eater. Just because it’s not our top choice doesn’t mean it’ s not the right weed eater for you. Toro is a great brand and they make number of outdoor equipment. In fact I’ve had a Toro zero turn lawnmower for years and loved it.
Worx WG119 15 Inch Electric String Trimmer
Designed for performance and comfort along with control and versatility. The Worx WG119 15 Inch Electric String Trimmer is another excellent choice for weed eating and trimming small lots.
Even though it’s not as popular as some of the other electric powered weed eaters the Worx WG119 15 Inch Electric String Trimmer has a lot of similar features.
Super simple to assemble and even easier to use. At a weight of only 6.5 pounds this is the lightest weed eater of all our top rated weed eaters. With it being so light you’ll have problems holding and using it for long periods of time.
Features Include:
- 5.5 Amps Motors
- 15 Inch Cutting Width
- Weight: 6.5 Pounds
- Telescopic Shaft
- 4 Position Head Adjustment
- Dual Line Auto Feed
- Foldable Spacer Guard
Other than it being extra light weight the other features are pretty standard. Including a foldable spacer guard which you don’t see on all weed eaters but they come in handy. As they can help you trim closer around flowers without chopping them down.
As for customer reviews there aren’t as many overall reviews as we would like to see but nonetheless there are more positives than negative reviews. Customers talking about how much power the 5.5 Amp motor provides along with how comfortable the Worx WG119 15 Inch Electric String Trimmer is to use.
What We Liked
Our favorite feature or selling point with this weed eater is that it only weighs 6.5 pounds. After using a heavy gas powered weed eater then switching to Worx WG119 you’ll feel like nothing is in your hands.
What We Don’t Like
Even though there is a telescopic shaft a number of reviewers complained about the Worx WG119 being to short. Having a weed eater that’s to short can easily cause unwanted back pain.
Summary
For the most part the Worx WG119 is just as good as the the Toro and the Greeworks weed eaters and in some cases even better. For instance if you are not able to life heavy objects or have back issues the Worx WG119 might be a better choice for you. In part because of how light this weed eater is.
Tips and Tricks
Safety first, always be sure to wear the proper safety gear when using any type of power equipment.
For corded electric powered weed eaters be sure to use the right type of gauged power cords to prevent from putting to much strain on the motor.
For gas powered 2 cycle motor weed eaters you want to make sure you use the correct amount of oil and gas mixture.
Make sure to use the recommend cutting string/line thickness for your weed eater as using line that is to thick can put a strain on the engine or cause it to burn out.
Conclusion
The thing about weed eaters is there are a lot of different options and finding the right one for your needs is the goal. With there being 3 main types of weed eaters including gas powered weed eaters, battery powered weed eaters, & corded electric plug-in weed eaters knowing which one would better for you is a big help.
