Most Popular Time Of Day To Mow Your Lawn – When is the best time to mow your lawn? Quick story, the other day I had to chance my mowers drive belt and was hoping to get it done and still have time to mow before the rain set it. That got me to thinking. When is the best time to mow your lawn? Before it rains or afterwards, in the morning, mid day or in the evening? To find out even more keep reading our Most Popular Time Of Day To Mow Your Lawn.
Mowing Your Lawn Before It Rains
In most cases it’s best to mow your lawn before it rains. You’ll be able to get a cleaner cut and at the desired height. Cutting the grass before it rains also allows your lawn to absorb and retain more water and nutrients. Of course your grass will grow faster and you’ll need to mow again in the near future, but that’s a good thing.
It’s also safer to mow before it rains compared to mowing in wet slippery conditions. Depending on the time of year it might also be a good time to dethatch your lawn.
Mowing Your Lawn After It Rains
For most of us with busy lives the best time to mow may not be the best time but the only time you can mow. If that happens to be after it rains there are a few things you should consider.
First of all try to wait as long as you can for the grass to dry out. Cutting super wet grass is harder on your mower and creates clumps of cut grass that’ll end up killing the live grass underneath.
Another issue when mowing after it rains is that you can cause ruts in your lawn and compress the soil making it harder for your lawn to get the air and water it needs to grow.
Best Time To Cut Grass In the Morning
Now that we know mowing before it rains is best how about the best time of day? The best time to cut grass in the morning is mid morning just after the dew has had time to dry. Cutting it to early would be similar to cutting it after it rains so it’s best to wait till it has time to dry out.
On the other hand cutting it late in the morning you’ll be in the heat. The heat can not only cause stress on you and your mower but can damage freshly cut grass as well. Obviously cutting mid day is just as bad for the same reason.
Best Time To Cut Grass In The Evening
If you are like me and like to sleep in on the weekends then you know that cutting the grass in the mornings are out of the question. That leaves us with the evening. Mid evening around 5PM is the best time to cut grass in the evening. By this time the sun is heading down and isn’t as hot.
Waiting to late to mow isn’t a good idea either because grass needs time to prepare for the cooler temps during the night. By cutting your lawn to late in the evening you could be setting your lawn up to grow fungus and other diseases that can kill your grass.
Conclusion
While it’s not always the best time for us, mid morning before it rains is the best time to mow your lawn. That’ll give the grass plenty of time to recover and prepare for night fall. The second best time would be mid evening. Hope this helps answer some of your questions about when and when not to cut your grass.
