Best Heated Dog Bed Buyers Guide For 2023-2024
How to Choose A Heated Pet Bed:
Consider how and where your dog likes to sleep. Is he destructive or likes to chew? Most dog beds are not appropriate for power chewers, particularly beds and pads that are heated with an electrical element and will need to be plugged into the wall. While some of these, such as the Houselog Heating Pad Electric Heated Pet Mat have chew-resistant cords, they may still not be right for your dog if he chews. The bed itself could be damaged and the heating elements exposed. While most electric heated dog beds have safety features to reduce the risk of electrocution, they should never be used unsupervised and if your dog likes to ruffle, dig or root around in his bed or chew, you should probably consider a self-warming bed. Self-warming beds such as the Best Friends by Sheri OrthoComfort Deep Dish Cuddler are an excellent alternative and contain thermal materials that reflect the heat of your dog back to him. Also, consider if the bed is washable or not.
Be sure the bed is big enough to accommodate your dog in all his favorite sleep positions. If you have dogs that like to curl up together consider getting a big enough bed for both to have a little wiggle room in together. Measure your dog from his head to the bottom of his bottom leg when extended. This should be the depth of the bed, and the width should be a few inches bigger than his length (snout to base of tail).
We’ve narrowed our reviews into several categories for heated dog beds:
Heating Pad Style: An insert meant to be used with an existing dog bed, blankets, or furniture:
These are what you’ll often find in boarding facilities or veterinary clinics because they are meant to hold up to a lot of abuse.
Not always the most comfortable, they do not yield to nesting dogs wanting to rearrange it. Typically made from metal, PVC, and nylon
Pillow or Mat Style Bed: A mat-shaped bed with no sides or edges.
These beds can easily flatten out over time if cheaply made.
Not all beds will have a washable outer layer but most do. Most of these beds have an inner layer of foam or filling that cannot be washed and may harbor allergens or dirt. They will need to be replaced often.
Bolster Style Bed: Similar to the pillow bed, but with raised edges or a nest-style
Most dogs love the security of a bolster and will snuggle up against the walls. Not all beds will have a washable outer layer but most do. The inside of these beds can harbor allergens and dirt and cannot be washed.
Most comfortable and soothing for most dogs.
Additionally, there are two other categories used for these reviews:
Self-warming and Electric. Electric dog beds plug into an outlet. Look for steel reinforced cords. Self-warming beds typically use Mylar, a PET film that reflects and radiates the dog’s heat back to them as they lay on the bed. Sometimes beds containing Mylar will crinkle, and while most dogs don’t care, some are spooked by it. Pay close attention to your dog’s reaction to the sound to gauge if he will mind the sound.
Aiicioo Dog Heating Pad
The listing photos for this product are deceptive and it is not suitable for a large dog on its own, however, it can be used inside of a bigger dog bed. We do like the Dacron cover on it and the reinforced edging to make it a little more chew resistant. It’s waterproof and designed to prevent your dog from being shocked. The reinforced steel cord is quite short considering the size of the pad.

- High Heating Efficiency- Aiicioo Pet Heating Pad provides gentle and warm temperature for your furry friends in winter. IT IS NORMAL TO FEEL NOT WARM ENOUGH WHEN YOUR PETS NOT LYING ON IT.
- Chew Resistance – It’s great choice for dogs who love to bite. Chew Resistant Cord and UL listed Adapter can better protect your pets from injuring itself

ALEKO PHBED21M Electric Thermo-Pad Heated Pet Bed
While we love the reinforced cord cover this bed is cheaply made. The fleece is thin and easily torn. It has soft bolster walls but no padding in the bottom where it is most needed. In the base where the bolster walls meet the bottom panel there is loose stitching and weak seams so it’s unsafe for dogs w who may ruffle and scratch around in their beds when settling.

- 6 foot long cord is coated with heavy duty chew resistant protection
- Internal thermostat automatically regulates the pad’s temperature

K&H Pet Products 3191 Thermo-Kitty Heated Pet Bed
This is a great solution for smaller dogs that like to nest. With high bolster sides, a soft plush pillow in the middle, this is a great bed that will warm your dog’s body temperature. It only has a 5-foot electrical cord that is not wrapped or reinforced so this cannot be used with a chewer or destructive dog. There are some quality control issues with this bed when it ships it sometimes comes misshapen with the foam sides flattened.

K&H Pet Products Thermo-Snuggly Sleeper Heated Pet Bed
This is a soft cushy bolster style bed. It’s suitable for smaller to medium size dogs. Unfortunately, the construction of this bed will not hold up to any abuse or chewing. For most dogs, it’s a great way to keep them warm. We like that you can wash the center cushion but it will likely go flat because it doesn’t have orthopedic foam in it. We feel that the price is a little high for the quality and construction of the bed but it is a good all-in-one solution.

Best Friends by Sheri Luxury Shag Faux Fur Donut Cuddler
This bed looks so soft and plushy and we absolutely love the fur because we know that most dogs will find it comforting and cozy. The bolster sides are thick and soft but we were extremely disappointed to find that the center part where the dog lays has minimal support and padding. After machine washing this bed you will need to run in the dryer and fluff and brush out the fur to keep it from matting and clumping. The filling inside the center destined to clump it will become thin over time. Therefore we’d probably opt for a separate supportive heating pad to use beneath this bed. The best part is that it comes in sizes that will accommodate bigger dogs.
Product Details:
- None
Pros:
- Removable zippered shell
- Water and dirt-resistant base
- Machine washable
Cons:
- Minimal support in the base of the bed
- Weak seams
- Bed has to be fluffed/brushed after washing
